VidNab Privacy Policy

Short version: VidNab does not collect, store on any server, sell, or share any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. Everything the extension does happens inside your own browser.

What the extension processes

• Network requests of the page you are viewing. To detect videos, VidNab looks at the addresses of media files (for example .mp4, .m3u8) that the current tab loads. This happens locally; the addresses are never sent anywhere.
• The video you choose to download. When you click Download, the extension fetches that video's files directly from the website that hosts it — the same way your browser plays it — and saves the result to your computer with Chrome's download manager. To do this it may send the page's own Referer/Origin header and your existing cookies for that site, only to that site.

What is stored, and where

• Detected videos and download progress are kept in the browser's session storage and are cleared when the browser closes.
• Unfinished downloads (paused or interrupted) keep their file name, source address and the parts already downloaded in local extension storage, so you can resume them later, even after restarting the browser. This data stays on your device and is deleted when the download finishes or you cancel or clear it.
• A download counter and a "support message seen" flag are kept in local extension storage, only so the one-time "support the project" message is shown once. They never leave your device.
• Downloaded files are saved where you choose, like any other download.

Uninstalling the extension deletes all of the above.

What is never collected

No browsing history, no list of videos you watch or download, no personal information, no device identifiers. VidNab has no server of its own and makes no requests other than downloading the video you asked for.

Third parties

The optional "Support" link opens our page on Ko-fi (ko-fi.com) in a new tab. If you choose to donate, Ko-fi and PayPal handle that payment under their own privacy policies; we only receive the donation, not your payment details.

Permissions

• webRequest and access to all sites — to notice media files on whatever site you are watching.
• declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess — to add the original page's Referer/Origin to the extension's own download requests, so sites that require it still work.
• downloads — to save the finished file.
• offscreen — to join video segments into one file in the background.
• storage — for the local data listed above.

Limits

VidNab does not download from YouTube and does not bypass DRM or other copy protection. You are responsible for only downloading content you have the right to save.
